Get Ready To Apply for California State Funding for Clean Energy and EV Adoption Projects
$183M has become available for businesses transitioning to clean energy
A revolutionary sum of $183M, provided by the California Energy Commission, was just announced by EnergIIZE Commercial Vehicles for clean energy and electric vehicle incentive projects over the next several years. Funding of this magnitude will allow businesses to speed up their adoption of clean energy and green transportation.
Titled the ‘EV Jump Start Funding Lane’, the program will be accepting applications from businesses from July 19 through August 18. At least $25M in funding has been allocated to EV Infrastructure incentive projects alone.
Who Qualifies?
According to the EV Jump Start Lane Factsheet, your business must qualify as one of the following:
- Small business as recognized by the California State Legislative Code, Section 14837.
- Certified Minority Business Enterprise, WomanOwned Small Business, Veteran-Owned Small Business, or LGBT-Owned Small Business.
- Transit agencies located in or that have at least 50% of fleet operations in a designated Disadvantaged Community (according to CalEnviroScreen 4.0).
- School Districts in a designated Disadvantaged Community (according to CalEnviroScreen 4.0).
- Low-Income Community (as defined by AB 1550).
- Tribal entity
- Non-profit organizations
How stringent is the small business recognition in California State Legislative Code, Section 14837? According to California Globe, here are the qualifications:
Government Code Section 14837 – “Small business” means an independently owned and operated business that is not dominant in its field of operation, the principal office of which is located in California, the officers of which are domiciled in California, and which, together with affiliates, has 100 or fewer employees, and average annual gross receipts of ten million dollars ($10,000,000) or less over the previous three years, or is a manufacturer, as defined in subdivision (c), with 100 or fewer employees. Commencing January 1, 2019, the average annual gross receipts threshold shall be fifteen million dollars ($15,000,000).
Any company based in California with under $15M/year in revenue and 100 employees should be considering applying for EV Project funding.
How Much Money Is Available Per Project?
EnergIIZE covers up to 75% of eligible equipment and software costs up to a cap of $750,000. That means that projects up to $1M are a perfect fit for EnergIIZE’s incentive program.
