VERGE23 offers a deep dive into transportation electrification with numerous sessions from industry experts.
VERGE 23, “The Climate Tech Event”, takes place this week from Tuesday through Thursday in San Jose, California. VERGE23 conference is run by Green Biz and takes place every year, focused entirely on clean technology developments and the potential to adopt these technologies to combat climate change. The event expects 5,000 attendees this year and hosts several key focus areas: Buildings, Carbon, Energy, Food, Startups and Transport.
Naturally, ZeroRig.com is focused on fleet electrification and sustainability topics available at VERGE23. Fleet electrification is a major topic at the event because it lives in the intersection of four of their key topic spaces: Carbon, Energy, Startups, and Transport. Transitioning from diesel to electric trucks promises to reduce emissions and improve air quality along heavily trafficked routes and transportation corridors. Special attention is placed on fleet electrification in the immediate term due to incoming regulatory pressure from sources such as CARB’s Advanced Clean Fleets regulations.
Here’s a summary of the transportation electrification sessions:

Decarbonizing Scope 3 On-Road Transport Emissions
Time: 4:15 pm – 5:15 pm
Summary: If transport emissions are one of your companies leading Scope 3 emissions, what do you do?
Many companies rely on third-party logistics carriers (3PLs) to ensure that company operations run smoothly and efficiently. However, serious challenges are arising for companies striving to marry company-wide ambitious climate goals with partner 3PL services. This session will explore what PepsiCo and Schneider National are doing to make meaningful progress on decarbonization and allow you the chance to engage in an interactive discussion.

Bypassing Roadblocks To Zero Emissions Trucking: A Medium- and Heavy-Duty Fleet Decarbonization Workshop
Time: 9:30 am – 11:45 am
Summary: The road to decarbonizing medium- and heavy-duty (MHD) trucking won’t be without speed bumps. But that hasn’t stopped ambitious trailblazers from pushing boundaries and creating solutions that will drive the industry toward a zero-emission future. With newly installed charging depots for trucks, increased pressures to reduce Scope 3 emissions and the release of fully electric Class 8 vehicles, a new era for MHD decarbonization is coming.
But there’s no denying that bottlenecks exist, and reaching ambitious goals will require continued coordination among carriers, shippers, utilities, charging companies and automotive manufacturers.
Collaborate with industry leaders addressing and solving some of the most pressing challenges in MHD electrification. You will:
- Hear the analysis from NACFE’s Run On Less — Electric DEPOT project.
- Learn from EDF+Business about how to take advantage of federal funding.
- Collaborate with leaders on best practices from across the industry.
Objectives: Leave the workshop having learned key insights from practitioners who have begun electrifying their fleets. The workshop will cover which duty cycles and locations are best to electrify, helping to achieve the highest value from transitioning to electric trucks. It will include discussions on federal incentives, charging infrastructure, and leveraging partnerships across the industry. You’ll be able to share best practices and field potential new collaborations.
